Every year at the NJSIAA State Wrestling Championships, a few storylines emerge that capture the attention of the entire arena. In 2026, one name quickly became impossible to ignore: Greyson Pettit of Delsea.
In a tightly contested battle at Central Regional, Moorestown held off Colts Neck 37–35 in the NJSIAA Group 3 semifinal, punching its ticket to the state championship game and securing the program’s first-ever appearance at Rutgers.
For Ariel Azeredo, the 2026 NJSIAA Region 4 Wrestling Tournament couldn’t have unfolded in a more meaningful way. Wrestling in his own gym with Union serving as the tournament host, Azeredo delivered one of the biggest wins of his career, capturing the Region 4 title with a hard-fought 7–6 decision over top-ranked Laudan Henry — a rematch that carried extra motivation after Henry had defeated him in the district finals just weeks earlier.
St. Peter’s Prep came into Lincroft as the No. 3 seed with one goal in mind — control the game early and never give Christian Brothers Academy the momentum it needed to flip the script. That’s exactly what the Marauders did.
The returning sectional champions walked into Marlboro as the lower seed and were immediately met with energy. The Mustangs opened the game with 15 first-quarter points, attacking early and forcing the Cougars into uncomfortable spots.
Christian Brothers Academy put together one of its most complete performances of the season, rolling past Camden Catholic 81–47 in the South Jersey Non-Public A quarterfinals. The Colts improved to 24–3 and now sit two wins away from Rutgers.
For Henry Hudson, that test came in waves Friday night. A fast start. A steady middle stretch. A fourth-quarter scare. And finally, a composed closeout.
Union didn’t need drama to open its postseason. The Farmers simply played their game, controlled the tempo and handled business in a 53–28 win over Ferris in the first round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 tournament.
