Steinert Shuts Down Mount St. Dominic Behind Miller’s Gem in Clash of Champions

When two defending group champions meet, you expect a battle—and for most of the afternoon at Panther Park, that’s exactly what it was. But once Steinert found its opening, they made it count, riding a dominant performance in the circle to a 4–0 win over Mount St. Dominic.

Both teams came in with strong resumes—Steinert looking to regain rhythm after a few midseason stumbles, and Mount St. Dominic continuing a strong year of their own—but runs were hard to come by early. Ellie Miller was in full control from the start, attacking the zone and keeping the Lions hitters off balance.

Through the first few innings, the Lions couldn’t get anything going offensively, with Steinert’s defense backing Miller every step of the way. A diving grab from Mia Pope in the second inning took away what could’ve been a spark for Mount St. Dominic, and another strong defensive play in the outfield later on kept the shutout intact. It was that kind of day, every opportunity MSD tried to create was quickly erased.

After a scoreless start, they scratched across the first run of the game, taking a 1–0 lead and shifting the pressure. From there, Miller continued to deal, limiting Mount St. Dominic to just a single hit all game. In fact, only one runner reached base safely for MSD, a testament to how locked in Steinert was across the board.

Holding onto that one-run lead, Steinert opened things up in the seventh, adding three more runs to put the game out of reach. Timely hitting from Danica Spak and Bianca Walsh helped extend the lead, while Madison Milton chipped in with an RBI to cap the scoring.

From there, it was Miller finishing what she started.

The ace went the distance, striking out nine and allowing just one hit in a complete-game shutout. It was one of the most dominant pitching performances you’ll see, especially against a lineup like Mount St. Dominic.

After a championship run last season and a few bumps along the way this year, this is the kind of performance that shows they’re finding their stride again at the right time. Against one of the top teams in the state, they didn’t just compete—they controlled the game from start to finish.
