St. Peter's Prep Secures Third Consecutive Hudson County Title with Commanding Win Over Hudson Catholic

In a thrilling showdown for the Hudson County Tournament title, St. Peter's Prep captured their third consecutive championship with a robust 52-40 victory over Hudson Catholic. The game, hosted at New Jersey City University, was not just a display of skill but a testament to St. Peter's strategic execution and team effort.

The match opened with St. Peter's Prep setting an aggressive pace. Richie Rosa led the charge with an impressive early show of 7 points, quickly establishing a lead for the Marauders. His ability to drive the offense set the tone for the first quarter, which ended with St. Peter's leading 13-7.

As the second quarter unfolded, Hudson Catholic found their rhythm, thanks to Keith McKnight and Rashad Robinson, who combined for 9 consecutive points. Elijah Williams capped off their scoring run with a crucial three-pointer, giving Hudson Catholic a momentary edge. However, St. Peter's managed to keep the game within reach, trailing by just five points at halftime.

The second half saw St. Peter's making strategic adjustments, particularly on defense. Mason Santiago stepped up, contributing significantly on both ends of the floor. His efforts in the third quarter helped St. Peter's regain the lead. Derek Gomez also played a pivotal role, not just scoring key baskets but also securing rebounds and blocking shots, which was crucial in maintaining the lead.

St. Peter's outscored Hudson Catholic 34-17 in the second half, demonstrating their defensive capabilties and ability to execute under pressure. Santiago finished the game as the leading scorer with 18 points, alongside six rebounds and three steals, showcasing his all-around game and impact on the floor.

We caught up with Rosa after the game to hear more about the Marauders key turning points to the game."Going into the locker room we knew what we had to do... this team has been through adversity and coming back the mentality was to take over." Although the moment is on the county title, St. Peter's is already looking ahead for state playoffs. "It's a great feeling to get this trophy again and we are going to keep the momentum going, I'm very confident in this team." When asked what's one thing people can expect from the Marauders going forward, the simple reply was "seeing us at Rutgers"

This win not only reaffirms St. Peter's Prep's dominance in Hudson County but also highlights their position in the state. As they celebrate their third straight county title, the focus will undoubtedly shift to their upcoming challenges, with aspirations of continuing their success in playoff competition.
