For the third straight year, St. Peter’s Prep stands atop Hudson County. Behind another composed, team-oriented performance, the Marauders defeated Harrison, 2–0, on Tuesday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium to capture their third consecutive Hudson County Tournament title.
The matchup featured two of North Jersey’s premier programs — both entering with dominant records — but it was Prep that set the tone early. Senior Anthony Bautista opened the scoring in the 8th minute off a setup from Philip Sayouwoh, putting the Marauders in control from the start.
Harrison, known for its disciplined back line, held firm for much of the night, but Prep’s persistent attack finally broke through again in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Nick Lutsky doubled the lead, finishing off a feed from Bautista to make it 2–0 and effectively seal the championship.
Goalkeeper Anthony Novello anchored the back for St. Peter’s Prep with seven saves, earning the clean sheet and helping the Marauders close out another championship run.
After the match, Bautista reflected on what the moment meant to him and the program:
“Winning this title for SPP is something I’ve been dreaming about ever since I was a freshman,” Bautista said. “I’ve felt confident in my ability to impact the game and stay consistent. Going into playoffs it’s about staying locked in and chasing that bigger goal.”
With the win, St. Peter’s Prep improves to 17-2-1, cementing its place as one of the top teams in the state as it now turns its focus to the Non-Public A state tournament — where the Marauders will look to extend their dominance beyond county lines.
