Seton Hall Prep Takes Down Don Bosco to Capture Non-Public Title

In a game fueled by redemption and redefined standards, Seton Hall Prep defeated top-ranked Don Bosco Prep, 13-8, to win the Non-Public A boys lacrosse championship at Kean University. The win marks a statement victory under first-year head coach John Svec, and avenges the Pirates' heartbreaking loss to Bosco in last year’s title game.

Behind standout performances from Tyler Juhlin and Nolan Sabel, the Pirates held steady early and exploded late to knock off the defending champions. Juhlin led the way with four goals and one assist, while Sabel quarterbacked the offense with three assists, including the setups for crucial fourth-quarter strikes.

“This win was so important for the school and this team,” Sabel said. “All the alumni that came and built this program into what it is today were a huge part of our motivation this season.”

Seton Hall Prep got out to a steady start, taking a 5–3 lead into halftime behind timely finishes from Christian Schweiger, Clark Rich, and Joe DelMauro. Don Bosco clawed back with five goals in the third quarter, but the Pirates weathered the storm with resilience. Their defense locked in down the stretch while Juhlin continued to deliver when it mattered most.

“We decided to start fresh and not worry about the past or any outside noise,” Sabel added. “We have a fantastic senior class which has been so important to the success of this season so far.”

Seton Hall’s faceoff crew, led by Luigi Pantano, went toe-to-toe with elite FOGO Scott Conte of Bosco. Pantano secured 7 faceoff wins, while the Pirates’ hustle on the ground and transition game made the difference in the second half.

The Pirates finish their season 15-7 and with the program’s first state title under Coach Svec—but more importantly, they close the book on a redemption arc that began the moment last year’s final ended in defeat.

“There was definitely extra motivation in falling short last year,” Sabel said. “It was our third time in this game, and we knew we had to get it done because it was our last chance. I love every single guy on this team, and I’m just glad the Class of 2025 at SHP left its stamp.”
