In a gripping encounter at the NJSIAA Tournament quarterfinal, Seton Hall Prep downed St. Joseph Regional with a nail-biting 52-49 victory.
Seton Hall Prep came out of the gates strong, with Anthony Gonzalez leading the charge. His early scoring spree, coupled with effective ball movement, allowed multiple players to get involved offensively, setting a high tempo from the start. Gonzalez's leadership on the floor was pivotal, as he helped orchestrate the offense, distributing the ball effectively to keep the defense guessing.
Dylan Guzzardo provided a significant boost with key three-pointers in the second quarter, helping to solidify the early momentum for Seton Hall Prep. His sharpshooting extended their lead and injected confidence into the team, demonstrating their depth in scoring options.
On the defensive end, Seton Hall Prep was just as formidable. "Coming to the prep, this is what I’ve wanted, to play against good teams and show that I am just as good, and coach always has us ready for these challenges," Gonzalez shared. The Pirates go on to face the #1 seed in Bergen Catholic. Gonzalez looks forward to the competition "mindset is to keep playing the way we are which is really hard so if we do that and make plays and stick to our game plan then we’ll be fine, we know that this game won’t be easy but if we play hard and play our game that puts us in good hands."
The victory was a collective effort that highlighted Seton Hall Prep's depth and resilience. In head coach Sterling Gibbs' first year, the Pirates have shown tremendous improvement and have a good chance to continue this run.
