In the biggest moment of the season, Brearley senior Sean Budis delivered a flawless performance on the mound—literally.

The Boston College commit etched his name into school history by tossing a perfect game in a 2-0 playoff victory over Wallington in the second round of the state tournament. Budis was electric from the first pitch to the last, striking out 16 batters and allowing zero baserunners in just 74 pitches. “I was able to stay locked in and composed by trusting my stuff out on the mound along with trusting the signs my pitching coach was relaying,” Budis said. “My fastball-slider mix was working excellent today. I stayed ahead early in counts and put pressure on the hitter.”

The performance was the latest highlight in what’s been a sensational senior campaign for Budis. Through 50.2 innings this spring, he’s compiled a 1.66 ERA with 87 strikeouts to just 9 walks. He’s been dominant in big games all year—throwing shutouts against Dayton and Scotch Plains, allowing just one earned run in seven innings against Johnson, and recording double-digit strikeouts in five separate outings.

Beyond the stat sheet, Budis has been the emotional leader of a Brearley team making a deep postseason run. And Thursday’s win meant more than just advancing in the bracket—it was personal. “This game means a lot to myself along with my teammates,” Budis said. “I’ve been playing with this group of guys for as long as I can remember. Going to battle with these boys is a privilege and I wouldn’t be able to do anything without them.”

As Brearley looks to continue its playoff push, the goal is clear. “I look forward to competing with my best friends and hopefully winning a sectional title to put the bow on top of my career here in Kenilworth,” Budis said. With the way he’s pitching, that goal is well within reach.
