Ramapo Claims Bergen County Title, Avenges Early-Season Loss to Bergen Catholic

Ramapo flipped the script when it mattered most. After falling to Bergen Catholic in a 4–3 thriller earlier in the season, the Raiders returned to the biggest stage and delivered a composed, complete 2–0 victory in the Bergen County Tournament final to reclaim their place atop North Jersey soccer.

From the opening whistle at Indian Hills, Ramapo controlled tempo and dictated play through crisp passing and midfield pressure. The tone was set early as Caden O’Connell buried the game’s first goal in the opening half, capitalizing on service from Nick Didato. The early strike gave Ramapo confidence — and they never looked back.

Bergen Catholic, one of the state’s top-ranked sides, pressed hard after halftime, but goalkeeper Julian Lora was steady between the posts, making six crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet. Ramapo’s back line stayed compact, clearing dangerous chances and frustrating the Crusaders’ attacking trio that had scored four in their previous meeting.

The dagger came midway through the second half when O’Connell struck again — his second of the night after a beautiful build-up involving Brody Benner, sealing Ramapo’s championship moment. The bench erupted, the sideline roared, and the Raiders capped off a near-perfect season at 15–1.

This victory not only delivered the county title but symbolized redemption. The early-season loss to Bergen Catholic had stuck with this group — and they used it as motivation. With balance across all lines, leadership from veterans, and resilience forged from past setbacks, Ramapo left no doubt who owned Bergen County soccer this fall.
