In a nail-biting Group 3 semifinal match that extended into overtime, the Mainland Mustangs clinched a breathtaking 36-35 victory over the Somerville Pioneers, securing their spot in the championship game. This intense encounter showcased the grit and perseverance of both teams, with Mainland pulling through in a dramatic fashion.
The game kicked off with Mainland setting a strong pace as Rocco DeBiaso dashed through Somerville's defense to score a 17-yard touchdown, establishing an early lead. The first quarter concluded with the Mustangs ahead, instilling confidence in their ranks.
As the second quarter unfolded, Somerville found their rhythm. Josh Rodriguez ignited the Pioneers' comeback with a crucial 2-yard touchdown run, quickly leveling the playing field.
