Ewing needed every bit of fight to secure its seventh win of the season — and with it, the WJFL Valley Division championship. Down by two scores in the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils stormed back to defeat Hamilton West, 30–24, in a thrilling Friday night finish.
Hamilton West came out firing early behind quarterback Cullen Bressler, who threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns. The Hornets built a 21–10 lead heading into the final quarter thanks to big plays from Brandon Boswell and Xavier Jenkins, including a 70-yard connection that silenced the Ewing crowd.
But Ewing’s ground game and defense flipped the script late. Josh Missick powered his way to 168 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including a 17-yard score that gave Ewing its first lead of the night. Moments later, with the Hornets driving to retake control, a fumble recovery by Dasan Jones turned into a stunning 61-yard return touchdown — sealing the victory and sending the home sideline into chaos.
"All I knew I had to go score. I picked up the ball almost fell but my brother Christian Casey picked me up and went to go block for me. This got to be my top memory, I envisioned it before and I made it to reality... I'm loving it"
Both sides showed flashes of dominance. Bressler connected with six different receivers, highlighted by Carmelo Brown’s 107 receiving yards, while kicker Grady Schaffer nailed a 49-yard field goal to tie the game late. On the other side, Ryan Greig managed the Ewing offense efficiently, tossing a touchdown to Jones while Chris Jones remained perfect on the night with a 49-yard field goal and three extra points.
The win pushes Ewing to 7–2 (5–0 WJFL Valley), capturing the division crown and building momentum as the postseason approaches. Hamilton West, now 5–3 (3–2), showed resilience despite the heartbreak — and will look to regroup quickly after letting a late lead slip away.
