Delbarton Secures Fifth Consecutive Morris County Championship with Win Over Chatham

Over at Montville, the Morris County Championship featured a thrilling contest between Delbarton and Chatham. The game was highlighted by a pitcher's duel between Delbarton's star, Aiden Dill, and Chatham's Wes Maksimow, both of whom delivered standout performances.

The game started off with Aiden Dill setting the tone for Delbarton, delivering a 10-pitch 1-2-3 inning that showcased his dominance. On the other side, Wes Maksimow found himself in a jam with a runner in scoring position but managed to escape without any damage, keeping the game scoreless after one inning.

Both pitchers continued to exhibit control, with each team getting a runner on base but failing to capitalize. Maksimow ended the second inning on a high note, striking out two consecutive batters. In the third, tension built up as Chatham got a runner on base, but Delbarton's defense held strong. Delbarton then loaded the bases with two outs, putting pressure on Maksimow. Displaying remarkable poise, Maksimow struck out another batter using his fastball, ending the inning with the game still tied at 0-0.

Aiden Dill responded by striking out the side in the fourth, maintaining the intensity.  As Chatham hit the field, Delbarton looked to get some offense going. Handy delivered on a double in the bottom of the fourth but the Green Wave could not get him in. As the inning closed out, it seemed that Maksimow had reached his count and the Cougars would go to the pen.

Dill went on to shut down all three batters on Chatham leaving them to maintain turn the game over to a new pitcher in Trent Jenks. Chatham found themselves in trouble after Tafuri advanced to third on an throwing error in attempt to steal second. He then scored on dropped fly ball bringing the game to 1-0. The inning would end at that. With Dill concluding his mound duties after another strong inning, striking out three batters, Delbarton looked to add some insurance. They successfully added two more runs thanks to a passed ball at the plate and an RBI single by Tafuri, pushing the score to 3-0.

Zebrowski took over pitching duties for Delbarton and closed the game by striking out all three batters he faced, sealing a 3-0 victory and securing Delbarton's fifth consecutive championship. The Green Wave advance to 22-2 on the year and get ready to close out the season strong with playoffs in the near future.
