Delbarton Scores 7 Unanswered Points to Defeat Summit 9-5

Delbarton reinforced its status as the top-ranked boys lacrosse team in New Jersey with an impressive second-half comeback, securing a 9-5 victory over No. 3 Summit on Thursday afternoon.

The Green Wave jumped out quickly, scoring twice early in the first quarter, highlighted by midfielder Will Pedicano’s transition goal. But Summit swiftly countered, going on an emphatic five-goal run, led by Jack Freeman and Chris Davies, to close the first half with a commanding 5-2 advantage.

After halftime, Delbarton emerged as a different team, driven by a rejuvenated offense and stingy defense. Gavin Romweber ignited the turnaround, tallying three goals and two assists, anchoring the Green Wave’s scoring barrage. Midfielder Pierce Bolger provided additional firepower, scoring back-to-back goals—including a momentum-changing man-up strike—to tie the game at 5-5 late in the third quarter. Bolger's second goal, assisted by Peter Falk with just over a second left, swung momentum decisively to Delbarton's favor.

Delbarton's dominance continued into the fourth quarter, scoring three unanswered goals from Romweber and Andrew Johnson to solidify the comeback victory. Romweber's precise passing and timely finishing demonstrated why he's considered one of the state's top offensive talents.

Faceoff specialist Kane Quenault played a pivotal role in controlling possession, winning eight of his nine faceoffs, helping Delbarton dominate second-half possession.

Following the victory, Delbarton improves its record, maintaining its hold atop the state rankings and showcasing resilience against top-tier competition. Summit marks the third team on Delbarton's streak of ranked opponents that fell short to the Green Wave. With consecutive wins over St. Anthony's, Seton Hall Prep and now Summit, there is no question who the top dogs are in the state. 

Both teams will look to build on this high-caliber matchup as they prepare for future tests down the stretch of the season.
