Delbarton Claws Back to Edge Pope John in Homecoming Thriller

In an electrifying homecoming showdown, Delbarton staged a remarkable comeback to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat, besting Pope John with a narrow 35-34 win.

The game kicked off with Pope John's Tylik Hill electrifying the crowd with a 31-yard touchdown run, his agility on display as he dodged defenders effortlessly. The Lions saw Hill again breaking free for a massive 60-yard touchdown, putting them ahead early and setting a challenging pace.

Delbarton began their comeback in the second quarter with Phillip Folmar fighting through for a 2-yard touchdown. Momentum built with Will Kramer's 49-yard field goal slicing through the uprights, followed by a pivotal 37-yard touchdown pass from Jadon Prinzivalli to Matt Tafuri, showcasing Delbarton's resilience as the Green Wave took a 17-4 lead to close the half.

The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair. Tylik Hill’s 11-yard touchdown run was countered by Delbarton’s strategic plays, including a safety and a 5-yard touchdown run by Brock Dandridge, only for Pope John’s Luke Giananella to retaliate with a 10-yard run, keeping the pressure on Delbarton. Delbarton's Matt Tafuri caught an 85-yard pass from Jadon Prinzivalli, adding a dramatic touchdown to the board. Pope John wasn't finished, as Wes Johnston made a crucial 23-yard touchdown catch. However, the subsequent blocked extra point attempt by Nick Stoll was the game’s pivotal moment, leading to Will Kramer's 27-yard game winning field goal that clinched the victory for Delbarton.

Heroics Unfold Nick Stoll’s block of Pope John’s extra point attempt turned the tide, setting the stage for kicker Will Kramer. Under immense pressure, Kramer’s 27-yard field goal was more than just a score; it was a triumphant moment that underscored his Homecoming heroics, cementing his senior season.

Delbarton advanced to 5-1 as they prepare for a bye week in hopes of getting ahead for a Non Public A Championship against the #1 team in Bergen Catholic. This rematch has been circled on the Green Wave calendar for quite some time and they will be coming off a great win and will look to keep the momentum going.
