Camden Catholic Grabs 4 Titles at Mustang Catholic
The Mustang Classic proved to be a showcase of dominance for Camden Catholic, as the Irish captured four individual titles in a performance that displayed their status as one of the top wrestling programs in the state. With their junior class leading the charge, Sammy Spaulding, Michael Kraft, Kage Jones, and Jaden Simpson all took home some hardware at the event.
The Irish wrestlers looked sharp in every match, particularly in the finals. Here’s a breakdown of their championship performances:
- 132 Pounds: Sammy Spaulding put on a clinic, earning a technical fall (22-6) over Frankie Burgio (Point Boro) in just 3:52.
- 150 Pounds: Michael Craft controlled his match from start to finish, securing a major decision (11-0) over Justin Bullock (Mount Olive).
- 157 Pounds: Kage Jones showed his power, pinning Robert Connelley (Red Bank Catholic) in 3:40.
- 175 Pounds: Jaden Simpson capped off the Irish’s dominance with a technical fall (16-0) against Daniel Benbrook (Middletown North) in just 3:05.
This exceptional performance highlighted not only the depth of talent on the team but also the impressive skill of the Irish junior class, who continue to make waves on the state level. Camden Catholic’s recent success isn’t a flash in the pan. With a state title already under their belt, the Irish have been a force in New Jersey wrestling for years. This performance at the Mustang Classic is a reminder that they remain a team to watch.
"It's great being part of such a strong class because it makes the work part of wrestling a lot easier. We had 5 starting freshman when we won states in 2023 and we've all grown from each other since then. We've become a family and its truly an honor to be a part of a great class and I'm excited to see what we do this season." said Spaulding.
The Irish will now look to carry this momentum into the remainder of the season. With a manageable schedule ahead, Camden Catholic is well-positioned to stay sharp and make another title run at the end of the season.
