Brick Memorial Explodes Late to Defeat Toms River South for Ocean County Tournament Title

Brick Memorial captured the Ocean County Tournament championship in dominant fashion Saturday night, pulling away late for a 15–1 victory over Toms River South after what began as a tightly contested pitchers’ duel.

Through four innings, neither side was able to break through as the game remained scoreless behind strong pitching and solid defensive play from both teams. But in the fifth inning, Brick Memorial finally found its spark offensively, pushing across three runs to take control of the game.

The Mustangs completely broke things open in the sixth, erupting for seven runs to extend the lead and put the game firmly out of reach. They added five more in the seventh inning, punctuated by a fitting final blow from star first baseman Dan Golembiewski, who crushed a grand slam to cap off the championship performance and put Brick Memorial ahead 15–1.

Golembiewski delivered a monster day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with 7 RBI, a home run, and two stolen bases in one of the most dominant individual performances of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Brody Moore starred on both sides of the ball for the Mustangs. Moore went 3-for-4 with an RBI offensively while also throwing a complete game on the mound, striking out 11 batters in an impressive all-around performance to lead Brick Memorial to the county title.

After battling through four scoreless innings, Brick Memorial’s explosive late offense and dominant two-way performances proved too much to overcome as the Mustangs secured another Ocean County Tournament championship.
