Brick Memorial Claims First Sectional Title with 7–0 Shutout Behind Moore's Efforts
Northern Burlington came in at 24-4 and averaging nearly 10 hits a game. Brody Moore held them to two. That's the story.
The West Chester commit delivered a complete game shutout on Friday afternoon, striking out nine and walking none as Brick Memorial defeated the Huskies 7–0 to claim the program's first sectional title in school history. It was a rematch from a year ago, when Northern Burlington had sent the Mustangs home. This time the result was different, and it wasn't particularly close.
Brick Memorial got on the board in the third and didn't stop there. Trevor Kish got things started with a solo home run to left center, his third of the season, to break the scoreless tie. Moore followed by extending his hit streak to 12 games with a knock that made it 2–0. Then the bases were loaded for Matt McGlynn, and the sophomore came through with a bases-clearing hit that pushed the lead to 5–0 and effectively ended Northern Burlington's chances of making it a game. McGlynn brought his postseason RBI total to five on that single swing. Moore added two more RBIs in the fourth to push the lead to seven, and from there it was just a matter of watching him work on the mound.
Moore snuffed out Northern Burlington's best threat in the sixth, snagging a comebacker and starting a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning. Nine strikeouts, two hits, zero runs, 83 pitches. Against an offense that had averaged nearly double digits in hits all season, it was one of the more dominant pitching performances of the entire postseason.
After the final out, Moore spoke on what the day and the title meant. "It means the world to me and the rest of the team to win this game," he said. "We knew what we were getting into and we wanted it so bad. I think getting this first sectional title will earn a lot of respect to Brick Memorial and inspire the younger players to chase greatness as well." On the mound he was locked in from the first pitch. "The whole goal was to command the zone and get ahead. My slider and fastball were my main pitches this game, working my curveball as well."
Senior Dan Golembiewski echoed the weight of what this program just accomplished. "The win today is huge. It's our first in program history. It leaves a permanent mark on how special this team is," he said. "As a senior it means everything. There isn't any other group of guys that I would rather go to war with every day. This team has really made my senior year special and I will never forget them."
A program's first sectional title. A revenge win over last year's champions. And a performance from Brody Moore that this team will be talking about for a long time. Brick Memorial is 25-7 and still playing. The Mustangs aren't done yet.
