Anthony Drago has never been one to chase personal accolades, but when the moment arrived to celebrate 200 career goals—making him West Essex's all-time leading scorer—he embraced it.

“It felt good,” Drago reflected. “It’s obviously something you dream of as a kid, but as you get older it just turns into focusing on one game and winning every play, so you kind of lose sight of records during the season.” That perspective underscores his approach to lacrosse and leadership. For Drago, the milestone was more than just numbers; it was a reflection of his growth as a player and teammate.

Drago’s milestone came during West Essex’s 13-8 win over Columbia, a game where he showed why he’s been one of New Jersey’s premier talents since stepping onto the field as a freshman. Drago was electric, finishing the game with 4 goals and 8 assists, accounting for a staggering 12 points. His performance not only propelled West Essex to victory but was a perfect example of the complete player he’s become — not just a scorer, but a dynamic playmaker and leader.

Since his freshman year, Drago’s evolution has been remarkable. Early in his career, he admitted he was “one-dimensional,” focused mostly on going to goal and shooting off the first dodge. Facing more sophisticated defensive schemes, including zones and tight man-to-man coverage, forced him to adapt. “Being patient and developing better vision and passing ability is something I’ve gained the most,” Drago explained, highlighting the maturity and expanded skill set he's cultivated through experience and dedication.

As Drago heads into the home stretch of his senior season, he’s making it a point to savor every remaining practice and game. “I look forward to the next practice, the next game, or event with the team,” he said. “I’m just trying to take advantage of all opportunities with the guys I have left.”

When asked how he hopes to be remembered at West Essex, Drago kept it simple: “As a competitor and someone that brought good vibes every day, whether in practice, games, or outside of lacrosse.” It’s that mindset that’s not only made him one of the state’s most elite players but one of its most respected as well.

Looking ahead, Drago’s journey continues at Duke University, one of the nation’s premier lacrosse programs. He’s eager for the challenge and the opportunity: “The most exciting part for me about being at Duke is having the opportunity to be all in with 50 other guys chasing a national championship every year while making lifelong memories.”

With over 200 career goals and countless memories made, Anthony Drago’s legacy at West Essex is already secure — a fierce competitor, a loyal teammate, and a player who made the most of every opportunity.
